Beyond the Scale: The Science of Sustainable Weight Loss (FREE Webinar)

If you’ve ever felt like you’re doing “all the right things” but the scale won’t cooperate—or you’ve lost weight only to regain it later—you’re not alone. And more importantly: it’s not a willpower issue.

Obesity and weight gain are driven by biology, hormones, metabolism, genetics, medications, stress, sleep, and environment. That’s why one-size-fits-all plans and “eat less, move more” advice often fail in real life.

That’s also why I’m hosting a free, science-backed webinar designed to help you understand what’s actually happening in your body—and what sustainable weight loss really requires.

What this webinar is (and isn’t)

This is a medical education webinar led by Dr. Minnie Cruz-Tolentino, MD, FAAFP, DABOM (double board-certified in Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine). It’s built for real people with real lives—busy professionals, parents, and anyone who’s tired of confusion, misinformation, and quick-fix promises.

This webinar is not:

  • A fad diet

  • A “detox” pitch

  • A shame-based lecture

  • A one-size-fits-all plan

It is:

  • Evidence-based education

  • Practical guidance you can apply immediately

  • A clear explanation of modern medical weight loss options

  • A focus on long-term health, strength, and metabolic protection

Why “the scale” isn’t the full story

Most people are taught to measure success by one number: weight.

But the scale can’t tell you:

  • How much fat you’re losing

  • How much muscle you’re losing

  • Whether your metabolism is getting stronger or weaker

  • Whether your plan is setting you up for long-term maintenance

One of the most under-discussed risks in modern weight loss—especially with rapid loss or appetite-suppressing medications—is muscle loss.

In some cases, 25–40% of weight lost can come from lean mass (muscle), not fat. That matters because muscle is a key driver of:

  • Metabolic rate

  • Blood sugar control

  • Strength and energy

  • Healthy aging and longevity

If you lose muscle, you may end up lighter—but more fatigued, “skinny fat,” and more likely to regain weight.

What you’ll learn in the webinar

1) Why obesity is a medical condition—not a character flaw

We’ll cover the biology of weight regulation, including:

  • Hunger and satiety hormones

  • Metabolic adaptation (“why your body fights back”)

  • Genetics and environment

2) The 5 common drivers of weight gain

Not all weight gain is the same. We’ll discuss patterns such as:

  • Metabolic weight gain (insulin resistance, prediabetes)

  • Hormonal weight gain (perimenopause/menopause, PCOS, testosterone changes)

  • Medication-related weight gain

  • Stress/sleep-related weight gain

  • Genetic and epigenetic factors

3) GLP-1 medications: the honest, science-based overview

We’ll break down what people are asking about most:

  • How GLP-1 medications work

  • Who may be a good candidate

  • Who should avoid them

  • Why medical supervision matters

4) The Muscle Preservation Protocol

You’ll learn the core strategies that help patients lose fat while protecting lean mass, including:

  • Strength training basics (and what “counts”)

  • Protein targets and practical ways to hit them

  • Why “eating too little” can backfire

  • Better ways to track progress beyond the scale

5) What comprehensive medical weight loss care looks like

We’ll walk through what evidence-based obesity medicine typically includes:

  • Medical and metabolic assessment

  • Lab work and body composition tracking

  • Medication selection and monitoring (when appropriate)

  • Nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress support

  • Maintenance planning from day one

Who this is for

This webinar is a great fit if you:

  • Have tried dieting and regained weight (even multiple times)

  • Are curious about Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro/Zepbound or other medical options

  • Feel “off” hormonally (fatigue, belly weight, cravings, sleep issues)

  • Want to lose weight without sacrificing strength, energy, or long-term health

  • Want a physician-led, evidence-based approach
